Wind and rough seas made for tricky fishing - A few days of rain, some wind and a sea that made the inlets less than polite -- well, really not sure how to rate this week, but when the sun was out it made up for the rain and wind. Surf anglers were hit the hardest. If the wind wasn't enough, strong surf made for less-than-polite fishing. Now, if Blues are your favorite, this is what it takes ... Full Story

A windy but busy week for fishing - The March wind is still with us, and so are the Blue Fish. For the surf angler, it is a double-edge sword. Wind can make it difficult to fish, but if the wind slows will the fish move on? At the moment, it has been 3-ounce days, but a little piece of cut bait will find plenty of fish. There's not too many Whiting this week. They are smarter than ... Full Story

Temperature is perfect for fishing - Off shore, it was permit and more permit, enough so that no one cared about the Dolphin or anything else. I know the Dolphin were happy. Permit at the Sand Pile, and from there to the Boils, which is what all those boats were doing. Anglers were moving slowly north from the inlet in 40 feet of depth, watching for the gold flashes. Once located, i... Full Story

Erratic fishing this week - Well it has been an unusual week for both fishing and weather. March winds, it would seem, are still with us. They change directions at will, and sometimes it was overcast to the point that you were sure it was going to storm and then it didn't. Fishing was hot one day and cold the next, both for the inshore anglers and the offshore boys. Very un... Full Story

Lots of fish this week - Well, we started out with warm weather, and then it went to cloudy, rain and cool. Enough, this is south Florida. That north wind will keep the Blues busy for the surf anglers, while keeping the cool water in the neighborhood. April is the time for the bigger Blues with some nine to 12 pounds and some bigger. Why? I wish I knew. Maybe they are ju... Full Story

Dolphin was a strong catch this week - Let's see, last week it was afternoon bite, and this week it was early morning. How do they know? I have never caught a fish with a watch on. But if Dolphin was your target and you did not go, well, you should have been here yesterday. From a little north of the inlet to half way to Jupiter, from 80 feet to 200 feet, trolling or live baiting, it ... Full Story

Good week for Mac and Pompano - Finally, three days without a jacket. Now let's work on this wind, because I am ready for summer. Yes, I want that warm quiet surf, even if I can't catch a Pompano. Finally this week we had Pompano on the beach. There was no special time, they were just in and eating. We had anglers reporting catches in the midmorning thru late afternoon, from th... Full Story

Missing the Pompano, but lots of Trout - Finally the high seas have settled, and the white surf is giving way to the blue water. Now we can go to the surf's edge and catch a fish like Blues, Jacks, Whiting and a few Pompano. Not sure where the Pompano went this year, but the conditions were not favorable for the species. Even the Blues were not as strong as in the previous season. Agai... Full Story

Offshore fishing good this week - Offshore, we started the week with great fishing from 30 feet out. We had Dolphin, Sails, Kings and Cobia. If there were too many boats in one location, all you had to do was go deeper to next color line and you were back in the fish. And there were lots of fish. Anglers reported as many as six to eight on Sails and more Dolphin than you could wa... Full Story

Cold weather brings in Pompano - Two mornings this week I opened and the temperatures were in the 40s. Oh well, anything for a Pompano. We had two great years of Pompano starting in November but this year we're still waiting for the run. Water temperatures have been unusual to the warm side, but finally we got some weather that will bring down the water temperature and bring in ... Full Story

Surf and river fishing good this week - How about this beautiful weather? With cool evenings and warm days with plenty of sunshine, I am not sure it can be any nicer. Our warm temps have kept some of our winter species at bay, but there are a few that seem to like it. Surf anglers looking for that run of Pompano are still waiting for a pattern. The Blue fish are there, just not the numb... Full Story

Use bridges to your advantage - Well, the sun has been shining and it looks like a nice day with moderate temperatures. But the wind has been blowing, which is good for the fair but limiting for the anglers. The wind has changed directions, but it has not slowed, and keeps the water in a mix with off-shore sporty conditions. So the surf is up with plenty of white water, and th... Full Story

Good weather but have patience for the fishing - It's been pretty nice weather, even for the Pompano anglers, with cool mornings, cool temps throughout the day and a big bright sun. So I will wear my winter shorts and put on a jacket just for you, Pompano fans. So where are the fish? If you have been fishing almost to Ft. Pierce (Douglas access) and spent some time of the beach, I know you got ... Full Story

Busy fishing for all anglers - How about this weather? I am not sure it could be nicer with cool evenings and moderate temps through the day. I love south Florida. Bigger dolphin, cobia and sails for the offshore anglers. Surf anglers have found plenty of whiting and croaker with a mix of blues and macs to keep busy. It's the river for the reds and trout with a mix of plenty o... Full Story

Unusual weather makes for uneven fishing - It was an unusual week of weather from warm to cold, wind to flat, with a mix of showers and I am not sure if the weatherman called one day correct. Pompano anglers were ready with the morning cold, but by noon it was warm. The next day it was cool all day and anglers just knew it was lowering water temps and they have been waiting. Sorry, not c... Full Story

Productive week for most anglers - Well, maybe it is not cool enough for the pompano, but it sure is nice weather to me. From the surf it has been blues, whiting and big croakers. Mix in a flounder or two and it has been a productive day at the beach. Early for the blues using cut baits. A medium cast will put you in their zone. Not a crazy catch but plenty to pull the line. I be... Full Story

Water temps still too warm for pompano bite - Pompano. That has been the leading question. There are a few, but not the run anglers are looking for. Water temps are the key and it has just not been cold enough long enough to cool the water. Yes we have seen them on the surf, in the river, but with a very short bite time and only a few to keep you fishing. In the surf it has been north one d... Full Story

Good week for all types of anglers - Well, we had a good week of fishing both inshore and off. Weather was less than predictable from wind to no wind, sun to clouds, both warm and cool and then the showers. It was all here this week. Less-than-polite seas but still fishable, 3 to 5 feet but with some time in-between and if you had the right boat you were in the fish. North of the St... Full Story

Offshore, surf, river reports - Offshore, seas are polite, so polite even I gave some thought to fishing and that means real polite. Still early for the Stuart light tackle results but the numbers at this time look a lot better than last week; 114 releases and there is still more time. Listening to the radio and hearing about all those pesky dolphin and black fins getting in th... Full Story

Results varied depending on where you were fishing - Yes the sun was shining all week and the wind blowing, so what does that do for fishing? Wind this week kept the surf anglers watching, river anglers on the east side, offshore tied to the doc and bridge anglers happy. As we always say, the more the wind blows the better the snook fishing. River anglers, in spite of the wind, had an excellent wee... Full Story
