Be careful while fishing in the hot sun - Let's see, the temperature has been 90 degrees all week and yes, I love it. Of course I am inside the Snook Nook with the air conditioning running, but every once in a while I stick my head out the door and enjoy it for a moment and then I go back inside. The big, bright sun and the temperatures just makes you lazy and the same goes for the fish... Full Story

Fish early for the best chance at catching dinner - The surf has been perfect. Fish early in the day for tarpon and snook, they like the coolest temperatures of the day and low light. Casting Crystal minnows or a small live bait will get the attention you are looking for. Remember, slow retrieve works best. Now, for those looking to take something home to eat, there are plenty of whiting and croa... Full Story

Could the weather be any nicer? - It's finally summer, so fish early and do not forget the sun screen. Off shore, from the beach or inshore the weather is perfect. Offshore we have had reports from 40-feet out and the cool part is it was all types of fish from dolphin to wahoo. There weren't a lot big fish but a lot of quality. Up close the kings were eating live baits. These fi... Full Story

Summer fishing is a beautiful thing - We've had two weeks of beautiful weather! A little wind and seas that never went above three feet. I love south Florida. Let's start on the beach... it is summer and the fish are here. It's a great time to go for a walk, casting a lure or just bringing a seat with you and let the bait find the fish. Snook season is closed, so all the slot fish wil... Full Story

Despite the wind, fishing is great - It has been a 3-ounce week at the beach with lots of wind, however, it was from the east, so there was no side current to contend with. There were plenty of whiting and croaker but I want to talk about the pompano? We have resident pompano in our waters, but there were some excellent runs this week. The problem was that they were at all different... Full Story

Signs of summer have the fish in a frenzy - Grouper season opened on May 1 to less than polite seas. Waves were three feet and close to each other. Big amberjacks kept most anglers busy and after two of these most had enough. Lanes and muttons made the short catch list with many big amberjacks, but an anchored boat in the less than polite conditions, well let's say the grouper were happy. ... Full Story

Welcome back, summer! - The only way Dolphin fishing could be better is if they can pre-packed. The weather has been perfect; the seas very polite and fish are biting from 60-feet out. We had fish reported from there out to 400-feet with lots of dolphin eating trolled ballyhoo. Whether you were north or south of the inlet it seems there were fish everywhere. In the mix ... Fishing news around the Treasure Coast - Inshore... The nice thing about the river, you can always hide from the wind. The East side of the river has been the place, whether it be the Indian or St. Lucie rivers. The Middle Cove area has produced an excellent redfish bite as well as trout in the 6lb. range. Live shrimp under a popping cork, live pinfish, and gold spoons have gotten th... Full Story

The wind can't stop a good day on the water - Days are starting off with cool mornings, then lots of sunshine with the light showers. The weather's not bad, but the wind is still blowing. March and April seem to be a little confused. Seas have been less than polite, not crazy but not inviting either. The waves are four feet and about four seconds apart, so I would say a bigger boat is the ans... Full Story

Even if the fish are scattered, the weather is beautiful - The surf continues to be the place to bend a rod. With summer temperatures keeping the water warm, there are lots of fish on the surf's edge. Fishing early will find blue fish, macs and jacks looking for breakfast. Cut bait is preferred, but that big noise top water is getting attention. These fish have teeth. They are meat eaters; they will hu... Full Story

If you can stand the wind, you can find a fish - Yes, the wind is blowing, yes the water temperatures have gone down and yes the blue fish love it. I spoke with several anglers this morning that went to the surf and all said the same thing: "What's with all the Blues?" I even had a few that were talking about the pompano. Yes, the cooler water is what is needed to bring them in. This is the tim... Full Story

Well how about this weather? - We're having bright, sunny days and just a little wind in the early afternoon and depending on who you talk to the fishing has been pretty good. The bridge anglers will tell you about all the black drum, blues and macs they have been catching. They're biting all day using shrimp, and in the mix plenty of big sheephead, jacks and a few trout not a... Full Story

Does it get any better than this? - How about this beautiful weather? Perfect is the best description. Cool evenings with a little wind but perfect days to be outdoors. Cooler evenings make for great blue fish in the early hour on the beach. It's been a busy week for cut baits in the early hours. Blues like the cooler water and in the mix you will find jacks and mac's to keep busy... Full Story

Pick a spot, any spot - Finally, the dolphin has made a good appearance in our area. These fish are in the 12-to 25 pound class and there have been quite few on the hook. They are eating live and trolled baits in the 125- to 175- foot zone. Watch for the color lines because that is where the fish are. From north to south there has been a good bite and yes, there are p... Full Story

Fishing in the perfect Florida weather - Well, the weather has been perfect! There has been lots of sun, moderate temperatures and a little wind. This is the time of the year when you find out why it is called fishing and not catching. Where are the dolphin, that is the question. It seems from the anglers that I talk with, that these fish are south of the inlet in 200-feet of water, sou... Full Story

Technical difficulties don't stop the fish from biting - What did we do before we had all these modern conveniences that break down and make us crazy? Last week's fishing column was lost to cyber land and this week we will try the fax machine, I think. There has been pompano and more pompano, everywhere from the surf, the bridges and the flats. If you're fishing from the surf, catch the high tide, you ... Full Story

Beautiful Florida weather makes any day a great day to fish - It's a sunny 80 degrees with a little wind from the south east... Yes, it's south Florida. I love this place. Surf anglers, it is a beautiful day but the pompano are not cooperating. There are lots of small fish; some anglers have caught 10 and not one in the limit. Well we know the pompano are here so where are the big fish? Pompano are a schoo... Full Story

Don't let the cold weather stop you from trying to catch a fish - It's finally Sunday and I can take off my jacket. It has been a cold week and it depends on whom you talk to if is good or not so good for fishing. Pompano anglers are happy. This is the first week I have heard about limit catches. Sail fish anglers are thrilled with multiple hook ups. Cooler temperatures have lowered the water temperatures and n... Full Story

Cold weather isn't slowing down the bite - It's cold and I am freezing but a lot of pompano anglers are happy and just as many blue fish fans are thrilled. One day the fish have been south, the next day north, but they are defiantly here. These days of cold have lowered the water temperatures to a more comfortable zone and the fish don't care if the fishermen are freezing. Blues and ma... Full Story
