Softball league to meet

The meeting for the New Smyrna Beach men's softball season will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, in the maintenance building past the softball fields at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex at 1800 Turnbull Bay Road.

The cost for the Men's season is tentatively set for $675 per team.

This cost will include 16 games plus a playoff with award T-shirts for the winning team in each division. The men's season is scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 14, and will play on Monday and Wednesday nights.

The deadline to sign-up is Friday, Jan. 11.

Each team interested in playing must have a representative at the meeting.

City offers exercise classes

The city of Port Orange has classes at the Adult Center annex, 3738 Halifax Drive.

Pilates will begin on Jan. 7. The cost is $7 per class or two classes a week for $12.

Line dance for beginners and intermediates will begin on Jan. 10. Cost is $20 for four weeks for beginners. Intermediate line dancing will cost $30 for eight weeks.

Basketball academy to begin

DeLand Parks and Recreation will offer the DeLand Drive basketball academy for boys and girls ages 4-15.

Dates for the league are Jan. 15 to March 3. The league is scheduled to operate at the Old DeLand High School Gym and the Chisholm Center.

Cost per child is $45 (plus $3 non-resident fee) for early registration by Dec. 28 and $50 after Dec. 28.

By joining the league, each participant will receive a team jersey, shorts and an award.

Coaches are needed. Register at DeLand Parks and Recreation office, 230 N. Stone St.

Tournament and toy drive a success

The City of DeLand Parks and Recreation Department concluded its Toys for Kids Softball Tournament this past weekend.

Winning the Men's Division and the Coed Division was Blind Pig.

There were 120 toys donated to families in need. The toy giveaway was held Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Chisholm Center.

Adult coed kickball league to begin

The City of Ormond Beach Leisure Services Department will hold its first ever adult coed kickball league beginning Jan. 7. The season will run through early March and each team will be guaranteed 16 games.

Games will be played at 6:20 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Participants must be 18 years of age. The fee is $400 per team, which includes umpires, scorekeepers, balls, staff, fields, lights and awards.

Men's winter softball league to start

Men's Winter Softball League will begin on Jan. 7. The season will run through early March and each team will be guaranteed 16 games.

Games will be played at 6:30, 7:45, and 9 p.m. Participants must be 18 years of age. Game softballs will be provided. The fee is $620 per team, which includes umpires, scorekeepers and balls.

Executive women celebrate holiday with golf outing

The Daytona Beach Chapter of the Executive Women's Golf Association met on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 for their Holiday Golf and Pot Luck Dinner at Victoria Hills Golf Course, 300 Spalding Way, DeLand, Florida.

The team golf format was a step-away scramble and guests, including spouses, were invited to join.

First low net winners were Mimi Lenio (president of the chapter), John Metz, Jim Poole and Jackie Poole (golf program and services director).

Second Low Net achievers were Bill Cook, Mimi Cook, Mary Ann Wilson and Rita Penze.

Third Low Net winners were Jeff Nelson, Katy Nelson and Marilyn O'Connor.

Closest to the pin for the women was won by Patsy Harton.

Closest to the Pin for the men was won by Jim Poole.

Unwrapped Toys for Tots were collected, as well as donations for the humane societies in Volusia and Flagler Counties
