County administrative offices, libraries to close New Year's Day
Volusia County administrative offices and libraries will be closed New Year's Day.
On New Year's Eve, administrative offices will be open normal hours and library branches will close at 5 p.m.
No Votran service on New Year's Day
Votran will not operate bus service New Year's Day in the Greater Daytona Beach Area, Southeast and West Volusia County areas.

Garbage pick up changed for holiday
There will be no garbage, recycling and yard trash collection for residents of unincorporated Volusia County on New Year's Day.
Unincorporated areas are outside city limits.
Collection days normally scheduled between Dec. 25 and Jan. 4 will be the following day. For instance, Wednesday collections will be on Thursdays.
The Tomoka Landfill and West Volusia Transfer Station will be closed New Year's day.

Children and Families Advisory Board to meet
The Children and Families Advisory Board will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the first-floor training room of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123. W. Indiana Ave., DeLand.
Members will discuss funding for summer camp scholarships and hear agency presentations on requests for proposals and statements of qualifications.

DeLand library offers e-reader workshops Jan. 4 and 18
Learn how to download free library e-books, audio books and music onto your e-reader during free workshops at the DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave.
The hour-long workshops will focus on Kindles at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4; Kindle Fires at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 4; Nooks and Nook Tablets at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18; and iPads and Android Tablets at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 18. Laptops are welcomed at all classes.
Librarians Char Purdy and Susan Fichter will give overviews of e-readers, explain how to borrow library books, and offer one-on-one assistance.
Participants are asked to bring fully charged e-readers or laptops. Kindle and Kindle Fire owners should also bring their Amazon.com account ID and password. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the library.

Food addicts support group to meet
Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous can help those who suffer from food obsession, overeating, undereating and bulimia. There are no dues, fees or weigh-ins at FA meetings. There are six weekly meetings in Volusia County.

Pet Vet Cruiser announces January schedule
Volusia County's Pet Vet Cruiser offers low-cost spaying and neutering services to residents of unincorporated parts of the county and the cities of DeLand and South Daytona.
Here's where the mobile clinic will be in January:

oJohn's Appliance City, 911 S. Volusia Ave., Orange City: Jan. 7, 14 and 28
