Skaters using St. Lucie County Skate Park are reminded that they must renew their annual photo identification card from St. Lucie County's Park, Recreation and Facilities Department before Tuesday, Jan. 22.
These cards can be purchased at a cost of $10 annually for St. Lucie County residents or $20 annually for out-of-county residents.
Skateboarders and in-line skaters using the St. Lucie County Skate Park must keep these photo ID cards on them at all times when using the park. The skate cards are required for skaters of all ages and can be obtained at the Havert L. Fenn Center, 2000 Virginia Ave., in Fort Pierce.
To renew existing cards or sign up for a new one, stop by the Fenn Center Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The Fenn Center will be closed on Jan. 21. Proof of residency is required, such as a driver's license, tax bill or current electric bill. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
St. Lucie County students, who receive free lunches through the school system, can obtain a skate card at no cost. However, they must provide proof of eligibility when applying for a skate card.
Those younger than 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian on file with St. Lucie County's Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department to obtain a skate card. Waivers are available at the Fenn Center and online at www.stlucieco.gov/parks/skatepark.htm.
The St. Lucie County Skate Park is a 15,000-square-foot concrete skate park located at 2100 Virginia Ave., behind the Fenn Center. Designed by Team Pain, this plaza-style skate park is open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk. Daily admission into the park is free with a valid skate card. Helmets and shirts must be worn at all times.
