ST. LUCIE COUNTY -- Want to travel back in time to the days of doo-wop and golden oldies? The Voices of Legends concert series, appearing monthly at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center in Port St. Lucie, is bringing the singers here for everyone to enjoy on Sunday, Feb. 24.
The concert series is headlined by Johnny Tarangelo, known as "Johnny T.," who was named by "Billboard" magazine as one of the top 10 tribute artists, and was formerly with the group the Mystics.
"His show of impersonating all of the great singers is really wonderful," said Laura O'Brien, hospitality manager of the Port St. Lucie Civic Center. "His voice is amazing."
Mr. Tarangelo performs his concert series at venues all over the country. In 1980, he joined the Mystics and toured with them until 1992. While pursuing a solo career, he started singing impersonations of the famous crooners of the 50s and 60s.
Video footage of the original crooners runs at the same time as his vocal performance, making the show truly entertaining.
There are two 90-minute performances a month, held on the same day. A dinner buffet is available with the earlier performance, catered by Domenick's Restaurant.
"They have been performing here since December and everyone loves it," Ms. O'Brien said.
The Port St. Lucie Civic Center is located at 9221 S.E. Civic Center Place in Port St. Lucie. The next performances will be held on Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. A buffet will be available at 4:30 p.m. for those attending the earlier performance. With the buffet, the tickets are $50 per person. Tickets must be purchased by Feb. 20.
