Classical series at Lyric set
Ernie Berlin, who brings the Ovation Series of classical performers to the Lyric Theatre, has announced the 2009-10 season.
For the first time, the season will begin in November. On Nov. 19, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra will perform with its legendary lifetime honorary conductor and pianist Philippe Entremont, in a return engagement at the Lyric.
Dec. 14 brings 14-year old violinist Chad Hoopes, winner of the young artists division of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition.
On Feb. 7, the Gold Medal winner of the Van Cliburn competition will perform. The winner will be chosen on June 7 and the Lyric concert will be the only south Florida appearance.
March 1 brings the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, founded in 1991, to record Russian music with Russian musicians.
On March 19, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, who performed at the Metropolitan Opera recently in the opera "Dr. Atomic," will perform.
One concert has to be finalized and Mr. Berlin will let Scene know the artist and date as soon as it is set.
He is very excited about the upcoming season.
"We never start the season in November, but we're doing it because the Vienna Chamber Orchestra is very prestigious," he said. "I've tried to make the concerts different in their own way, with orchestras, singers and soloists. It's a varied program."
Tickets for the Ovation Series are on sale now and individual tickets will go on sale on Memorial Day.

The Treasure Coast Youth Symphony will perform George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" at the Lyric Theatre on April 28 at 7 p.m. Laura Servinsky, pianist, will perform with the Youth Symphony.
