MARTIN COUNTY -
Wachovia recently completed its United Way of Martin County pledge campaign, with team members participating in a dessert extravaganza contest at Indian River State College Chastain Campus in Stuart.
In addition to its nationwide United Way campaign, the Wachovia team at the local event raised $561 toward the United Way of Martin County 2009-10 campaign.
"It was a creative and delicious way for a United Way community partner to raise funds for the annual campaign," said Wendie Berardi, United Way assistant development director.
"It just goes to show how much fun companies can have while raising money to help their community."
More than 35 Wachovia team members entered a dessert in the contest. The judge's favorite award went to Bonnie Simes, Palm City financial center manager, for her carrot cake. Adriana Leon, Tradition Financial Center teller, won best in show award for her rum cake with butter cream.
Although Wachovia's team members finished their pledge campaign early, the total contributions to this year's United Way campaign will not be available until December.
