Flag football league to begin

The City of DeLand Parks and Recreation Department is offering a 7-on-7 Youth Flag Football League open to any school team.

The divisions will consist of elementary grades 3-5 and middle school grades 6-8.

The program will take place on Mondays and Thursdays at Sperling Sports Complex, 1500 Matt Fair Blvd., DeLand.

The cost is $50 per player.

Open play softball scheduled

The city of DeLand Parks and Recreation Department will offer open play for woman's fast-pitch softball.

Each session will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. each Thursday until Sept. 20, at the Sperling Sports Complex, 1500 Matt Fair Blvd., DeLand.

Youth soccer slated

The city of DeLand Parks and Recreation Department will offer a youth soccer league for boys and girls ages 4-15.

Games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand, 1500 Matt Fair Blvd., DeLand

The city will be offering a free soccer clinic for ages 6-15 from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6.

The cost per player is $58 plus $3 non-resident fee for players ages 6-15 and $50 per player for the 4- and 5-years-olds.

Each player will receive a dry fit game jersey, shorts and socks.

Participants may register at the Parks and Recreation office, 230 N. Stone St., DeLand, or at one of the clinics.

The league is dependent on volunteer coaches, if interested or have questions call (386) 740-5800.

Softball showcase planned

The Daytona State Individual Softball Player Recruiting Showcase will be at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Daytona State College for fast pitch players ages 15-19.

Players will be evaluated by college coaches on their fielding and hitting skills, as well as given accurate overhand radar throwing speeds, pitchers will be given speeds on two different pitches, catchers pop to pop times, and running speeds.

Each participant will be sent a report on his or her skill level. Also, every player will have the results made available to every college softball coach in the U.S. The grading scale will also be published to the coaches, so they know how the individual was scored.

The nonrefundable registration fee is $60 by Sept. 1 and $90 after Sept. 1.

No credit cards will be accepted.

Participants must pre-register. A participant is not registered until payment is received.
