COCOA BEACH - Two Cocoa Beach residents have qualified to run for mayor of the city in the upcoming fall election.

Anne Herzog and Dave Netterstrom will appear on the ballot during the General Election on Nov. 6. The position of mayor, which is a four-year term, is Seat 1 on the Cocoa Beach City Commission.

Basic information about the candidates is as follows:

Anne Herzog

. Age: 50

. City: Cocoa Beach

. Years as resident: two

. Occupation: president and COO of Entech Creative Industries

. Education: bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in psychology from the University of Delaware in Newark, Del.

. Organizations affiliated with: Cocoa Beach Citizens Academy, Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization, Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, Themed Entertainment Association, Racket Club of Cocoa Beach

. Marital status: married to husband, John Marhoefer

. Number of children: two

. In 100 words or less, explain what makes you the best candidate for Mayor of Cocoa Beach: “Why mayor? The city lacks strong leadership, direction and vision. I bring a fresh perspective to Cocoa Beach, at a time when it needs it. We must focus on community interests, not special interests. I am fiscally conservative and will tackle the tough monetary issues that affect the well being of our city, for the residents and businesses of Cocoa Beach. This includes addressing the city’s potential pension shortfalls. Monetary decisions need to be planned carefully, before being implemented. My family loves living in Cocoa Beach. It is time to protect the resources it has to offer and to make it an even better community.”

Editor's note: In the original candidate profile detailing those running for mayor of Cocoa Beach, Anne Herzog’s statement, explaining why she feels she is the best candidate for mayor, was cut short due to a computer error. This article has been updated with her full statement. Hometown News regrets the error.

Dave Netterstrom

. Age: 47

. City: Cocoa Beach

. Years as resident: 18

. Occupation: entrepreneur and investor

. Education: Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., and Master of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton

. Organizations affiliated with: Space Coast Art Festival and many other local charitable groups

. Marital status: married to wife, Sherri Netterstrom

. Number of children: three

. In 100 words, explain what makes you the best candidate for Mayor of Cocoa Beach: "I am experienced, dedicated and deeply qualified. I have a proven record of conservative fiscal management. I insist city government become more citizen-friendly. I care about our city's small-town, friendly character with good neighborhoods and safe places to live and raise children. With proven experience as commissioner and vice mayor, I'm not a trainee. As a long-time resident with proven local leadership, I'm not a newcomer. As a new mayor and with a new commission, we'll solve problems, deal with issues and positively promote Cocoa Beach. We have a wonderful city - let's make it better!"
