Volunteers needed; Citizen Program meeting Sept. 20
Each month, nearly a dozen events and activities attract residents and visitors to the NSB Waterfront LOOP and other areas of New Smyrna Beach. The City of New Smyrna Beach also is hoping these activities will draw the interest of people interested in lending a hand as event volunteers.
"We're putting together a group of volunteers to help with traffic, barricading and general patrol at events," said Sgt. Chris Roos, of the New Smyrna Beach Police Department. "It's a great way for people to get involved and also meet other people in the process."
People interested in volunteering may attend a meeting of the Citizen Volunteer Program at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, at the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, 246 Industrial Park Blvd., New Smyrna Beach.
Program volunteers will receive specialized training by the city's police department. Civilians will learn parking enforcement, crowd and traffic control, and neighborhood patrol. In addition to special events assistance, volunteers also may receive training in records management and receptionists duties.
Uniforms and equipment will be provided.
No experience is necessary. However, volunteers cannot have a criminal history.
