VERO BEACH -
The Skate Factory is starting a free program to help children stay in good physical condition while having fun at the same time.
Skate Factory has teamed up with www.kidsskatefree.com and is offering kids up to 12 two free skating passes per week now through 2013. Times for the free skate include weekdays and weekends, days and evenings.
"We heard about this program and immediately wanted to jump on board to offer it here in Vero Beach," said Kevin Carroll, co-owner of Skate Factory, located at 485 27th Avenue Southwest.
"It just made sense for Skate Factory to join in the cause to help fight childhood obesity while having fun at the same time."
Both the American Heart Association and the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports recommend roller skating as a great fitness activity for persons of all ages.
Skaters are encouraged to bring their own skates; however four-wheel and in-line skate rental is available for an additional fee.
To register to receive the free passes, visit www.kidsskatefree.com and select Skate Factory from Florida's list of participating skating centers.
