SEBASTIAN - There will be dancing, singing and comedy in a new event for Sebastian.
The Original Welcome Wagon of Sebastian will present the "Fall Follies Variety Show" on Oct. 19 at the Sebastian Elks Lodge No. 2714.
The show is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will last three hours, including an intermission, said Shirley Baker, president of the nonprofit.
The show is open to the public and tickets are $7.
In addition to the entertainment there will be raffles, door prizes and a cash bar, Ms. Baker said.
When the organization first began, it was a ladies club that invited newcomers to the community to feel welcome.
Over time, the club was expanded to include raising funds for high- school scholarship programs and local charities.
On a regular basis, the ladies of the club get together and visit over a meal and sometimes play bingo or hold white elephant sales.
"We have a lot of fun with it. It really helps people that want to meet other people in the community," Ms. Baker said.
The Welcome Wagon holds various fundraisers throughout the year and the variety show is a new concept they are trying for fundraising, Ms. Baker said.
"We are very excited for this. We had done something like it before at the Sebastian Senior Center, but that was quite a while ago," she said.
"I don't think there is going to be anything quite like it in Sebastian," Ms. Baker said.
Ticket holders will see people from Sebastian, Barefoot Bay and Vero Beach perform in the variety show, including some humorous character actors.
"It's going to be a very good show," she said.
The Sebastian Elks Lodge No. 2714 is located at 731 S. Fleming St., Sebastian. For tickets, call (772) 321-3279.
