Eight students at John Carroll High School have earned advanced placement scholar awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams. The college board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students' performance on these AP exams.

Four John Carroll students qualified for AP Scholar Awards by completing three or more AP exams with grades of three or higher.

The AP Scholars are: 2012 graduate Duchney Derosier (attending John Hopkins University), 2012 graduate Meredith Peterson (attending Northeastern University), 2012 graduate Ryan Morgan (attending Wake Forest University), Savannah Geary (JCHS senior, planning to attend Brown University in 2013) and Carly Beth Jones (JCHS senior, planning to attend Washington University in 2013).

Congratulations to John Carroll 2012 graduate Joey Ryan (attending the University of Miami) who qualified for the AP scholar with honor award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of three or higher on four or more of these exams.

Additionally, Alexis Planer (attending the University of Central Florida Honors College) and Dominic Utter (attending the University of Florida), earned AP Scholar with Distinction honors for earning an average of 3.5 on all exams ever taken and for scoring three or higher on five or more exams.

The College Board's Advanced Placement program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous, college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP exams.

John Carroll High School is proud to offer 14 advanced placement courses: U.S. history, biology, environmental science, English literature and composition, calculus AB, physics B, French language and culture, chemistry, computer science, statistics, American government and politics, macroeconomics, human geography and psychology.
