Congratulations to John Carroll High School students Blaze Walsh and Rachel Gross for winning the American Legion Post No. 318 sponsored Americanism essay contest.
Annually, John Carroll American history instructor Becky Jones encourages her classes to participate in the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest and is always pleased with the quality of work put forth by the students.
In 2012, more than 40 students completed an essay, answering the question, "How can I show my patriotism in my community?"
Blaze earned the distinction of Department of Florida award winner and was given a medal and certificate.
Local essay winner Rachel also earned a certificate and $50 in prize money
"Thank you to all who participated in this contest," said Ms. Woodburn, the Americanism chairwoman for Legion Post No. 318.
"I was honored and proud to be a part of this involvement at John Carroll High School."
