2012 Volusia County Fair to premier new concerts, entertainment

The 68th annual Volusia County Fair & Youth Show, and its toe-tapping and South-loving theme, "Cowboy Boots and Country Roots," promises to crank up the fun Nov. 1-11 at the Volusia County Fairgrounds in DeLand.

Discount admission tickets and ride wristbands for the fair will be available at more than 50 Walgreens stores throughout Volusia, Flagler and eastern Seminole Counties through midnight Friday, Nov. 2. Prices for the discounted tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-12. Children under 5 are admitted free. Wristbands for unlimited rides are $15 at Walgreens.

The fair opens at 4 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, and 9, and at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 and 10, and Tuesday, Nov. 6, Sunday, Nov. 4, and Sunday, Nov. 11. The fair remains open until the midway closes, with the exception of Sunday, Nov. 11, when it closes at 9 p.m.

This year's Volusia County Fair Concert Series includes internationally known acts that offer free general admission seating with gate admission:

.Tracy Lawrence, 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.

.The Lettermen, 4 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6.

.The Farm, 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10.

New entertainment features at the 2012 Volusia County Fair include:

.Yesterdaze: A high-energy six-piece band that plays hits from the '60s, and will perform three shows per day on weekdays and three shows per day on weekends throughout the Fair at the Center Circle Stage.

.Sea Lion Splash: America's only traveling sea lion show will make its inaugural appearance at the fair this year.

.Mallory Lewis & Lamb Chop: Mallory "Mally" Lewis, daughter of Shari Lewis, and Lamb Chop's performance is a high energy and nostalgic performance, filled with contemporary music, topical comedy and hilarious audience participation as well as vintage footage of Shari and Lamb Chop.

Returning favorites are:

.Hypnotist Steve Bayner: Recognized as the best performing hypnotist show in America by the President of the Washington Hypnosis Society, he will take to the Center Circle Stage all days of the fair.

.Disc-Connected K-9's: High-flying Frisbee dog entertainment.

.Great American Petting Zoo: The no-barrier petting zoo contains a wide variety of animals, including llamas, fallow deer, Bennett wallabies, African pygmy goats, assorted exotic and domestic goats and sheep, Vietnamese potbellied pigs, Bantam chickens, miniature Sicilian donkeys, and miniature call ducks.

.GASCAR: Inter-species animal racing like you've never seen before.
