BREVARD - As a result of his efforts to spruce up the north end of the county, Brevard County Commissioner Robin Fisher was honored with the 2012 Gary R. Cunningham Distinguished Service Award.
On Wednesday, Oct. 24, at its annual meeting at the King Center, the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast presented the award to Commissioner Fisher, whose district includes various cities in North Brevard. The Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast created the Gary R. Cunningham Distinguished Service Award in 2006 as a way to honor business leaders who show continuous efforts to support economic development.
At the meeting, Paul Hanson, the incoming chairman of the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast, recognized Commissioner Fisher for his public service and his success as an entrepreneur.
In addition to owning a State Farm agency in Titusville since 1989, Commissioner Fisher has served as the driving force behind the North Brevard Economic Development Zone, Mr. Hanson said. Furthermore, Commissioner Fisher has reached out to various businesses in an effort to bring jobs to the area.
"In the wake of the shuttle retirement, he partnered with the city of Titusville to create the Greater Titusville Renaissance, creating an arts and cultural district and city beautification initiative," Mr. Hanson said. "Robin made the redevelopment of Miracle City Mall his personal mission, securing a national developer to facilitate the sale and redevelopment of this site."
Commissioner Fisher said he was grateful for the acknowledgment.
"This is an honor," he added. "I have enjoyed working with the Economic Development Commission to help brings jobs to Brevard."
