STUART - A 50-year-old Port St. Lucie man is in jail after police said he brandished a handgun during a dispute at a Stuart motel.

Jeffrey Rollinson was staying at the Best Western Hotel on South Federal Highway when he got into an argument with guests there, Stuart Police said.

Before long, the convicted felon was pointing a 9mm Taurus at a victim's head, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police said the man tried to barge into the guests' room and threatened them with his handgun until police arrived on the scene.

"During their investigation officers learned that Rollinson had been involved in a verbal confrontation with a couple staying at a room in the hotel during which he had attempted to push his way into the room. After unsuccessfully gaining entry into the room Rollinson stated he was going to get his gun," Stuart Police Department spokesman Mike Pope said in a statement.

"Shortly thereafter, Rollinson returned with a duffel bag and when the male in the room opened the door, Rollinson pulled the gun from a duffel bag, chambered a round and pointed it at the male's head. Rollinson then ran away and was observed by a security officer going in to another room."

Police searched the room and found the gun hidden in a bag.

Officer Andrew Pine arrested Mr. Rollinson, of 9854 Perfect Drive, Port St. Lucie, and charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated assault with a firearm.

At press time, Mr. Rollinson remained at the Martin County Jail pending $25,000 bond.
