Native people come alive in artist's work
A retrospective of paintings by Constanz Elder is on exhibit in the Reading Room of New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Highway, through Nov. 30.
Working in oil and acrylic, Ms. Elder's paintings convey a moment in the daily life of people in some of the areas she has traveled, including Mexico and the highlands of Peru, the North Slope of Alaska, as well as Guatemala and Naxos, Greece.
Her works detail the authenticity of the clothing worn by her subjects in color as well as style.
The artist's comments beside each work provide insights to the people she met, whose images are in the paintings.
Ms. Elder has a work in the library's permanent collection, 'Anthony '˜Packrat' Thompson,' also in the Reading Room.
