Enterprise teachers visit the Enterprise
A contingent of teachers from Enterprise Elementary School took a historic trip to the USS Enterprise docked in Mayport on Nov. 1.
The carrier has been in operation for more than 50 years and will be de-commissioned in December.
The reason for the teachers visit was to receive an American flag in honor of the school's 100th anniversary.
With the name connection, Enterprise Elementary pupils have been writing to the sailors on board the Enterprise for several years.
This flag was flown over the USS Enterprise on Sept. 11, and commemorates the tragedy of that day along with the celebration of education 100 years strong at Enterprise School.
Dr. Virginia Abernathy, school principal, accepted the flag from Chas Folick, a retired sailor, the liaison for the trip. It is now proudly unfurled in the school's courtyard.
