BREVARD - Linda Seals has a vision for the University of Florida Brevard County Extension Service.
Now, with her promotion to county extension director, she plans to carry it out.
"My vision is for the University of Florida Brevard County Extension to be recognized as the go-to organization for expert advice," she said. "The University of Florida Brevard County Extension Service delivers unbiased, research-based educational information to the citizens of Brevard County, for both youth and adults."
The service provides information about topics such as water quality and quantity, financial management, nutrition, cooking, preserving, gardening, landscaping, pasture management, mosquito control, fisheries, pond management, livestock, farming, agriculture, child-passenger safety and more.
"We also oversee the Brevard County Farmers Market and the Brevard County Fair," Ms. Seals said. "Many people are familiar with our 4-H & Youth Development Program, which teaches leadership and skills through hands-on activities to help (youth) be successful in future careers."
Ms. Seals said that in addition to delivering educational information and programs to area residents, her duties include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the University of Florida Brevard County Extension Service, as well as market the organization and create and implement a county-wide development program.
Prior to her role as county extension director, Ms. Seals served as the commercial horticulture extension agent, responsible for developing and implementing educational programs for the green industry in Brevard County. She has served at the University of Florida Brevard County Extension Service since 2006.
Ms. Seals said she looks forward to what the future may bring with her new position.
"We have a lot of exciting programs going on right now," she said.
