ST. LUCIE COUNTY -
For more than 60 years, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation have been strong supporters of the United Way both at the national and local levels. Today, AT&T continues this legacy of support through a contribution of $6,000 to United Way of St. Lucie County.
In 2012 alone, AT&T gave $5.77 million to 574 local United Ways across the country.
The United Way of St. Lucie County will use the contribution to support programs that create long- lasting change in the local community.
The United Way is dedicated to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good, as is evident from the work the United Way is doing in Florida.
In 2012, the United Way of St. Lucie County, and volunteers, raised more than $1 million to support programs that center on education, income and health.
Last year alone, more than 4,400 county children were given school supplies to start school. Nearly 8,000 dental screenings have been performed throughout 12 elementary schools with more than 14,000 tooth brushes distributed to youth in pre-k to second grade.
The United Way of St. Lucie Counties efforts, coupled with the generous and ongoing support of the community, has provided thousands of families throughout the county with the resources they need to live a better life.
'The United Way of St. Lucie County has transformed into an organization that not only raises dollars for selected health and human service programs, but is proactive in identifying unacceptable community conditions and then focuses its many resources on creating and supporting initiatives that work to improve those conditions,'said Brad Guffin, United Way of St. Lucie County board chairman.
'We attribute our success to our donors, to our volunteers who have given of their time and talents, to our community partners and to the health and human service agencies we support.'
