Pancake breakfast planned

The Kiwanis Club will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at 312 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.

Pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice will be served.

Adults are $5. Children 12 and younger are $3.

Volusia County plans free outdoor adventures

Residents can ride the Spring-to-Spring Trail, create art from nature and explore three of Volusia County's conservation lands during free outdoor adventures in December.

oBike about: 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4. Bicycle the paved Spring-to-Spring Trail from DeBary Hall Historic Site to Lake Monroe Park and back. Tour DeBary Hall afterward if you wish. All ages and abilities are welcome. Bike helmets are required. Meet at DeBary Hall, 198 Sunrise Blvd., DeBary.

oGuided hike: 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5. Hike a beautiful one-mile trail through hardwood hammock and scrub at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. Meet at 2317 Creek Shore Trail, New Smyrna Beach.

oNature into art -- Christmas style: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 8. After a short hike to collect materials, participants will create several pieces of art from clay, sand, leaves, sticks, seeds and vines. Meet at Bicentennial Youth Park, 3300 New York Ave., DeLand.

Softball tournament benefits kids

The City of DeLand Parks and Recreation and DeLand Nissan will host a Toys 4 Kids Softball Tournament Friday, Dec. 7, to Sunday, Dec. 9, at Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand.

There will be a men's division and a coed division with a two-game guarantee. Entry fee per player is a toy valued at $20.

Deadline to register is Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Pet Vet Cruiser slated

Volusia County's Pet Vet Cruiser offers low-cost spaying and neutering services to residents of unincorporated parts of the county and the cities of DeLand and South Daytona.

Here's where the mobile clinic will be in December:

oOakbrook Professional Center, 931 S. Spring Garden Ave., DeLand: Dec. 3, 6, 10, 17, 20, 24 and 31

oJohn's Appliance City, 911 S. Volusia Ave., Orange City: Dec. 5, 11 and 18

Fees are based on income. Appointments are required and may be made by calling (386) 323-3575 in Daytona Beach, (386) 626-6643 in DeLand, or (386) 424-6875 in New Smyrna Beach.

Kids can receive a postcard from Santa

Santa is making his list and checking it twice at Volusia County's Parks, Recreation and Culture Division.

As part of an annual tradition, recreation employees will send personalized postcards from Santa to children up to age 11.

Parents can have their children added to Santa's mailing list by e-mailing the child's name, address and ZIP code to elves@volusia.org, calling (386) 736-5953 or faxing (386) 943-7012. Requests will be accepted through Dec. 9.

Learn to ballroom dance

The City of DeLand Parks and Recreation Department will offer ballroom dancing from 2 to 4 p.m. each Monday at the Sanborn Activity Center at Earl Brown Park.

VITAS Innovative Hospice Card will hold a Holiday Candlelight Remembrance Service at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at 725 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.

Council on Aging conducting holiday drives

The Council on Aging is conducting a holiday food drive.

The council's Santa for Seniors collection will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at four Lohman Funeral Home locations.

Participants may drop off a gift of cash, gift card or new unwrapped gifts for a senior.

Food Addicts in Recovery to meet

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous is available to those who suffer from food obsession, overeating, undereating and bulimia. There are no dues, fees or weigh-ins at meetings. There are six meetings in Volusia County.
