Musical begins run at Athens Theatre
The Athens Theatre presents "Scrooge! The Musical," featuring a Central Florida cast of more than 45 experienced actors of all ages from as far north as Flagler County to the Orlando/Sanford/Mount Dora areas.
Nine performances are planned at the historic Athens from Friday, Dec. 7, through Dec. 16. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday matinees start at 2:30 p.m. Admission for each performance is $25 for Preferred Seating (row A-E), $20 Adult General Admission, $18 Seniors, $10 Students, and $16 for groups of eight or more.

Low-cost pet clinic slated
H.E.L.P. Animals, Inc. will have a low-cost shot clinic from 8 a.m.- noon, Saturday, Dec. 8, at the DeLand Lions Club, 400 N. Garfield Ave. Hot dogs, drinks and chips will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the concession benefit the Lions Club.
H.E.L.P. will have a Santa at the shot clinic and for $5 donation kids and pets can have their pictures taken with Santa.
Alzheimer's Association to meet
The Alzheimer's Association support group will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at St. Barnabas Church on the corner of West Wisconsin and Clara Avenues in DeLand.
All loved ones and caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease are welcome.

Kickball tournament benefits kids
The city of DeLand Parks and Recreation and DeLand Nissan will host a Toys 4 Kicks Kickball Tournament Saturday, Dec. 15, at Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand.
The tournament is open to men and woman with a two game guarantee.
Entry fee per player is a toy valued at $10, toys will be donated to the Chisholm Center.
Deadline to register is Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Potluck planned
The Halifax-St Johns Chapter of the Florida Trail Association will have its annual Christmas pot luck dinner at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Hidden Valley Clubhouse, 91 Valley Drive, DeLeon Springs.
Participants should bring a dish to share.
Road program hearing slated
The Florida Department of Transportation, District Five, is conducting a public hearing for the its tentative five-year work program for fiscal year 2013 to 2018.
The public hearing will include information for Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia counties.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Department of Transportation
District Five Office Building, 719 S. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.
The department also will provide an option for the public to attend the public hearing on Dec. 11 via webinar at the department's Work Program website www.D5WPPH.com/2012.
