Biologist to address Flyfishers
The Mid Coast Flyfishers of New Smyrna Beach will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the Fraternal Order of Police, 471 Mission Road, New Smyrna Beach.
The speaker will be Dr. Eric Reyier, a fisheries biologist with the Kennedy Space Center. He will talk about the work on the Northern Indian River Lagoon System.
Dr. Reyier is an aquatic biologist responsible for management of endangered species monitoring, regional fisheries and habitat restoration within wetland, estuarine and marine waters near the space center. He has published a large number of papers during his outstanding career.

Lady Falcons dominate home game schedule and seek toy donations for holiday charity
Daytona State College's women's basketball dominates the December home schedule with two tournaments - Daytona State Showcase on Dec. 7 and 8, and Daytona State Holiday Classic on Dec. 29 and 30.
Additional home games include women's swimming on Dec. 15.
The two-day Daytona State Showcase features teams from Hillsborough Community College, Gulf Coast State College, and Brevard Community College. The Lady Falcons tip-off their first game on at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, against Brevard Community College. The final tip-off of the tournament is between the Lady Falcons and Gulf Coast State College at noon on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Support the Lady Falcons as well as "Toys For Tots" by bringing an unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more. All games take place in the Lemerand Center (No. 310) on the Daytona Beach Campus located at 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. For additional information, call (386) 506-4524.
The Daytona State Holiday Classic scheduled for Dec. 29 and 30 features teams from Chipola College, Broward College, and Northwest Florida State College. The Lady Falcons tip-off their first game at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, against Northwest Florida State College. The final tip-off of the tournament is between the Lady Falcons and Chipola College at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30.
Basketball tryouts slated
Port Orange PAL will be having tryouts for boys and girls 10 and under, 12 and under and 14 and under competitive basketball teams.
Try outs will be at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Port Orange city gym.

Hoop Shoot scheduled
The Port Orange Elks No. 2723 will hold its annual hoop shoot from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Port Orange Recreation Center. 1000 City Center Circle, Port Orange.
The event is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 12. The Winner will proceed to the district challenge. Refreshments and awards will follow at the Port Orange Elks Lodge, 5207 S. Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange.

Repair center and Michelin support soccer club
The Michelin Soccer Program and Orlando & Sons Repair Center donated more than $580 in both funds and equipment to Ormond Beach Soccer Club.
The club will use the funds for scholarships, uniforms and other soccer essentials for the participating leagues.
The Michelin Soccer Program partners tire dealers with local youth soccer organizations, providing the dealers the opportunity to reach out to the community. The leagues in turn receive funds and equipment.

Basketball clinic slated
DeLand Parks and Recreation is offering free basketball clinics for youth ages 9 to 15.
Clinics will be Thursday Dec. 13, as well as Jan 8, 10 and 12.
All sessions will be at the Old Gym at DeLand High School.
Ages 9-11 will be at 6 p.m. and ages 12-15 will be at 7 p.m.
