SATELLITE BEACH -- The children of the Space Coast have been good this year, and for their efforts, Santa will be stopping by for a visit.

This year's Santa's Party will kick off at the David R. Schechter Community Center on South Patrick Drive on Dec. 8.

The two-hour event, scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m., allows guests ages 2 and older to dress in their holiday best for a magical evening, hosted by Kris Kringle himself.

The event will feature Mrs. Claus' Winter Wonderland, which will include holiday-inspired desserts and a chocolate fountain. Additionally, children can create homemade holiday crafts and dance the night away, alongside Santa's elves.

Parents are advised to bring along their cameras, as Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves will pose for pictures with the children.

Jill Nelson, who has served as a youth program instructor at the community center since 2001, said she has organized Santa's Party for 10 years.

"Santa's Party is especially fun because my whole family is involved," she said. "My father, Andrew Scarpellino, plays Santa and has made the house he sits in. My children dress as elves, play instruments and work the refreshment stations. In addition to family, lots of local kids get community service hours for helping set up and tear down the event."

She said she hopes to see a boost in attendance this year.

"It's a great family event, without hustle and bustle," she said. "It's really a nice, kid-centered activity to celebrate the holidays. We really go over the top."

Sign up for Santa's Party at the David R. Schechter Community Center by Dec. 3.

For children ages 2 to 10, the cost is $15. For children 11 and older, the cost is $7.

The David R. Schechter Community Center is located at 1089 S. Patrick Drive in Satellite Beach.

For more information, call the center at (321) 773-6458.
