VERO BEACH --
The Vero Beach branch of CenterState Bank has dedicated November and December to recognizing heroes in the community.
Based on a specially designed community heroes program offering special benefits to local "community heroes" who open accounts at the bank, they have also taken steps to offer financial donations for the good work that is being done.
Diana Walker, branch manager, visited with Marty Zickert, president of the Indian River County Veterans Council and Vietnam Veterans of America (Chapter 1038) at Memorial Island to present it with a check of $250.
"We use donations for veterans in need," Mr. Zickert said. "It's simply a matter of putting all our donations to good use and taking the stress out of paying bills or other special needs that may plague our veterans on a daily basis. We will put this donation from CenterState Bank to good use."
Ms. Walker came to the check passing dressed in her own mother's Navy jacket and hat which she thought was more than 65 years old and helped commemorate the occasion.
The bank is preparing for a visit with the Military Moms Prayer Group on Dec. 1 at the family holiday fest in Riverside Park.
