Did you -- or someone you know -- work for the American Machinery Corp. at the Beresford Boat Works during World War II?
If so, then please join the West Volusia Historical Society as an honored guest at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Robert Conrad Education and Research Center, 137 W. Michigan Ave., DeLand.
Historical society member and retired DeLand High School history teacher Dan Friend will present the results of his research into the wartime history of the DeLand AMC tugboats, or Warboats, as he now likes to call them.
For the first time some information is available on what they did after they were built for the U.S. Army, and even though all were fairly small tugboats built for harbor use, it appears that some of them actually saw direct action in World War II in Europe.
This exclusive presentation will be followed by a special announcement about the AMC tugboat artifact that prompted this new research.
Seating is limited.
